PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) -  Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg held a news conference Wednesday morning outlining the sex crimes Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star closing pitcher Felipe Vazquez are charged with.

According to a criminal complaint, Vazquez has admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a girl who was 13 at the time.

According to the complaint, Vazquez admitted the victim sent him a message on Instagram, but he originally refused to communicate with her because she looked too young.

Even after this, Vazquez continued contact and it escalated from there.

Vazquez said beginning in 2017, he and the victim exchanged photos that were sexual in nature.

He admitted that he drove to the victim’s house in Scottsdale Borough, Westmoreland County, two years ago and engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl at the end of  the driveway. He called the intercourse, “sex but not really."

The victim told police after a minute or so he left “because he had a game that night.”

Vazquez and the victim had contact with each other as recently as July of this year.

PA State Police said Wednesday that they were contacted last month by police in Florida, where the victim now lives.

The victim’s mother went to police to tell them Vazquez had been in contact with her daughter and that inappropriate photos were shared.

Vasquez was arrested Tuesday for charges related to soliciting the child in Florida, providing obscene materials to a minor and one count of computer pornography.

Local authorities want to prosecute Vazquez for the Westmoreland County charges first before he faces the Florida charges.

Police believe Vazquez with be arraigned Wednesday afternoon either in person or via video arraignment from Allegheny County Jail, where he is currently being held.

According to court documents filed in Westmoreland County, Vazquez faces charges including statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of a minor and indecent assault.

At this point there are no additional victims.
