HARRISBURG, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - On Wednesday, nine new drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites were opened at several Wallmart locations in Pennsylvania, including several in Western PA. These were in addition to others that were opened over the last couple of months.
Governor Tom Wolf said, "If we want to mitigate the spread of this very contagious virus, we must continue to understand how it’s impacting Pennsylvania. Most importantly, improving access to testing helps Pennsylvanians who want and need to test for COVID-19."
According to the CDC, as of Thursday Pennsylvania has the 8th highest total of COVID-19 tests conducted in the country.
“Testing also provides us with critical data to understand where the disease is in our communities so that we can take the necessary proactive measures to stop the spread and continue to protect the public," said Wolf.
The state has teamed up with Walmart and Quest Diagnostics to open new test sites to give people access to testing who may not otherwise have it. In June, Wolf said “We continue to add testing sites in locations that are convenient for Pennsylvanians and increase the state’s testing capabilities,” Gov. Wolf said. “We do not want any Pennsylvanian in need of a test to have difficulty finding a location close to home for a free test.”
"Walmart is happy to assist Governor Wolf with reliable timely COVID-19 tests via a convenient drive thru," said Jamie Reilly, Walmart regional health and wellness director.
