At two o'clock on a Thursday afternoon, things aren't usually hopping at the DoubleTree hotel in Green Tree but this time it was a sight to behold. Hundreds of cars lined up, filled with people waiting their turn in line for a free Thanksgiving turkey.
The response was so great, they actually fell short on the number of turkeys needed but that didn't stop them. They gave out grocery store gift cards so those folks were taken care of too.
But wait, there's more...
After the event in Green Tree, the Chaffin Luhana team had another delivery to make. Get Marty connected them to administrators at Pittsburgh's Urban Pathways charter school. In the photos below you can see the truckload of frozen birds that will be going to the school's families.
The next stop is another round of turkey deliveries on Friday afternoon. This time it's on Eric's home turf in Hancock County, WV where he grew up.
Most recently, our entities have focused on food insecurity and safety through the COVID-19 pandemic, starting with our 10k Sandwiches event in March through which we gave out 10,000 sandwiches and then our efforts to help distribute masks to more than 12k people in the Pittsburgh community.
