The northbound 5 freeway is now open at Fort Tejon after a big rig fire sparked a brush fire near the Grapevine Wednesday.
Two left lanes of the southbound 5 freeway are now open at Grapevine Road, according to KNX reporter Scott Burt late Tuesday afternoon.
Initially, all lanes of the 5 freeway were closed near the Grapevine due to a brush fire. Initially it was a big rig fire that sparked into a brush fire.
Earlier on Tuesday, according to the CHP Fort Tejon the fire closed both the south and northbound lanes of the 5 freeway. According to Caltrans District 6 on Twitter, there is a big rig fire that has closed all lanes of the southbound 5 freeway near the base of the Grapevine. Caltrans District 6 is now reporting that smoke covering all lanes of the northbound 5 has it closed too at Fort Tejon.
"All lanes currently CLOSED on Southbound I-5 near the base of the Grapevine due to a big rig fire with smoke covering all southbound lanes," the tweet said.
According to KNX reporter Scott Burt the 5 freeway is CLOSED at Fort Tejon and the SB side is CLOSED at Grapevine Rd due to a Big Rig Fire that sparked a Brush Fire.
Kern County Fire reported on Twitter that there is a multi-agency response on the southbound 5 south of Grapevine rd. Cal Fire is on the scene.
