Forbes reported that Dr. Fauci, who is the head of the National Institute for Health and has been one of the most prominent officials in the national response to the coronavirus pandemic, made $417,608 in 2019, the latest year for which federal salary information is available, according to a Freedom of Information Act request by OpenTheBooks.com.
Fauci's salary puts makes him the highest paid doctor in the federal government, as well as the highest paid employee of all four million individuals who work for the government.
Fauci's salary surpasses even that of the president, whose salary is $400,000 a year.
In the two years prior to 2019, Fauci earned $384,625. Between 2010 and 2019, he earned a total of $3.6 million in salary.
Fauci's colleague, Dr. Deborah Birx, made $305,972 in 2019. That tops the vice-presidential salary of $235,100.
Senators and members of the House of Representatives make $174,000 a year, although House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will earn $223,500 this year.
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts makes $270,700, while a four-star military general brings home $268,000.
