As Covid-19 vaccines are distributed across the world, social media influencers can thank their lucky stars if they happen to live in Indonesia.
Social media influencers have been among the first to receive vaccinations in the country, and its all been a strategy concocted by the Indonesian government. Indonesia currently faces the most severe coronavirus outbreak in Southeast Asia, more than 869,000 cases and 25,000 deaths, and still there has been a ton of skepticism about the safety of any vaccine, never mind the ones for COVID-19.
So, President Joko Widodo has given priority to social media influencers to receive the vaccine, and show people it is completely safe. Among the first to receive it was television personality Raffi Ahmad, who has 50 million followers on Instagram.
A poll last month showed 37% of Indonesian people were willing to be vaccinated, 40% would "consider it," and 17% refused.
