Our neighbors up north love music almost as much as we do and last night they celebrated, virtually, with The Junos - Canada's national music awards similar to the GRAMMYs, but colder and with universal healthcare.

Toronto native Alessia Cara was a big winner on Monday night’s show taking away three trophies, including one for Best Album of the Year, certainly a consolation for not being able to host the awards in person due to the global pandemic. Before its postponement and subsequent redesign in March, Cara had planned on presiding over a massive JunoFest, with 60 performers spread out over 11 different venues.

But the show must go on, and Alessia led this year with six nominations, while her countrymen and women Shawn Mendes, Meghan Patrick, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, Torey Lanez, The Weeknd, and Michael Bublé were also under consideration.

Cara, who also performed on the livestream, picked up Junos for Best Songwriter of the Year, Best Pop Album, and Best Album of the Year for her 2018 release The Pains of Growing.

Best Single of the Year went to Shawn Mendes’ "Senorita," with Camila Cabello (his third time winning the award), but Mendes wasn’t going to go home with just one this year. Once again, he took home Best Artist of the Year, his second time in a row receiving the honor.

Canada’s Best International Album of the Year went to Billie Eilish for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? – a trophy that will definitely look pretty sweet next to all those GRAMMYs.

Finally, the coveted Juno Fan Choice award, which is the only one voted on by the Canadian public, went to national treasure Avril Lavigne, who took the crown from a full field of heavy hitters including Alessia Cara, Ali Gatie, bbno$, Justin Bieber, Loud Luxury, NAV, Shawn Mendes, The Weeknd, and Torey Lanez.
