Jessica Simpson’s life story is coming to the small screen.
The overall deal includes an unscripted docuseries, a coming-of-age scripted series, and two personal essays focusing on motherhood and gratitude.
“I am humbled and honored to partner with @amazonstudios to bring my story and heart to life on the screen and executive produce a fictionalized coming of age series about my mid-twenties, a new intimate unscripted docuseries with music as a key component and 2 essays where I will share my soul and perspective while holding your heart close to mine,” Simpson captioned a post on Instagram.
“I am a huge TV fan and many of my favorite shows live on Amazon, so the gift of this unprecedented collaboration is the brightest visible dream for me.”
Released earlier this year, "Open Book" featured many candid revelations from the mother of three.
Simpson described overcoming her addiction issues and how she was sexually abused at a young age. She also elaborated on her decision to get sober in 2017 and discussed her former relationships with ex-husband Nick Lachey and singer John Mayer.
“I know that parts of my life have been extraordinary, but I also know that many of my struggles are universal,” the “Private Affair” singer added. “I hope to continue the mission I set out to accomplish in writing Open Book -- to inspire others to be entertained, moved, and empowered to walk through fear and come out on the other side even stronger.”
The docuseries, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video, will feature never-before-seen footage of Simpson over the last decade. While the scripted series is set for IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service.
"Jessica has a fascinating, emotional story, not just of celebrity and success, but with relatable, all-too-human problems so many of us encounter with love, family, and life," said Vernon Sanders, co-head of television for Amazon Studios. "Open Book was a phenomenon, and we're so excited to bring it to life on Prime Video and IMDb TV, and for Amazon Original Stories readers to have the chance to hear more from Jessica in her own words."
Simpson is no stranger to documenting her life on television as she previously starred on the MTV reality series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" from 2003 - 2005.
