Winter storm to blast the KC Metro, blizzard conditions possible Saturday

Kansas City, MO - The entire Kansas City area is included in a Winter Storm Warning that has been issued by the National Weather Service. The warning begins at 6 p.m. Friday and continues through 9 p.m. Saturday. 

The forecast for Friday calls for rain, which is expected to begin to freeze after 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. Precipitation will turn into a wintry mix or freezing rain and sleet, then switch to snow during the overnight hours into Saturday. 

The forecast for Saturday calls for conditions to deteriorate, with heavy snow and strong winds as high as 37 mph combining to create blizzard-like conditions.

As much as 5 to 7 inches of snow could accumulate, with higher amounts to the north of Kansas City. 

There is a strong chance for icy road conditions, with snow accumulating on the ice.


Road conditions could remain dangerous on Sunday, when large numbers of football fans will head to Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs' 2:05 p.m. playoff game against the Houston Texans.
