EUREKA, MO (KMOX) - Many parents rely on the school cafeteria for their students' lunch menu. That won't be an option in districts starting the year with online learning.
One cafe in Eureka -- Sarah's on Central -- is offering to be a remote learning school lunch lady. The cafe and bakery is adding kids meals that parents can order for pick up or delivery. Owner Jill Umbarger says the response from families has been overwhelming.
"Parents, I mean, they're stressing out. I think they're feeling overwhelmed because they're not teachers," Umbarger says. "They're afraid that either they're going to drop the ball or not do it right. I think that maybe taking this one little thing off their plate, can be a big thing for some parents."
Umbarger says Sarah's on Central will start by offering two days of lunches a week to neighborhoods in Eureka and some in Wildwood and see how it goes. She says she's also considering a pop-up sweet stop in neighborhoods for afternoon snacks.
