ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - GameTime Tournaments is hosting the Mother's Day Classic in two fields - one in St. Charles and one in Jefferson county. The other fields they normally use in the city and county can't be used because of pandemic restrictions.
The tournament includes baseball and softball. Players range in age from 7- to 18-years-old.
Sports writer Ben Hochman says parents are split.
"Ya know, 50% of the people say 'No way! We're not letting our kids out there to interact.' And the other 50% are like 'I wish we were playing yesterday. Let's play ball. It's nice outside," Hockman says.
- Everyone has to stay 6 feet apart.
- No more than 3 in the dugout at a time, the rest must spread out down the fence lines.
- No handshakes or fist bumps and coaches can't challenge calls with umps, who will not be behind the catcher but 6 feet behind the pitcher.
- Balls will be sanitized between each innning and benches between each game.
"How do they discipline everything?" asks Hochman, who was a guest on The Charlie Brennan Show with Amy Marxkors. "Johnny is going to make a diving catch in center field in front of Timmy. Does Timmy not give him a high-five for making the greatest catch he's ever seen a kid make?"
