ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Four St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officers were shot and are recovering, but one man who has been identified as a former St. Louis law enforcement official, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning.
It happened after local, peaceful protests meant to call attention to the history of injustices by some police officers against minorities in the U.S., turned violent in the city.
Two of the St. Louis officers were shot in the leg, another was shot in the foot and the other was shot in the arm. Chief John Hayden, speaking to media, was visibly shaken after a night of rioting and looting.
"A group of folks, about 200 or so, obviously had no intention of protesting or doing anything constructive," Hayden says. "All they came down to do was hype up, start jumping up and down, like crazy people.
Former St. Louis Police Capt. David Dorn was killed by a "looter" overnight outside Lee's Pawn and Jewelry on Martin Luther King Drive.
No officers were hurt.
