ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - On today's podcast we're joined by Dr. Guy Venezia, an OB-GYN at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton and Dr. Fred Buckhold, a SLU Care general internist at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Dr. Venezia says new numbers out of NYC show pregnant moms with coronavirus don't experience more severe illness than others in the general population as they do with the flu or did with SARS.
They also do not seem to pass the infection on to their babies in the womb.
Dr. Venezia says there are a lot of precautions being taken at hospitals now when it comes to labor and delivery. At St. Clare right now, only one person is allowed into labor and delivery other than the mother.
If the baby goes into NICU, both parents can be there for three days. If mom is discharged but the baby stays in NICU, then only one parent is allowed back in to visit.
