LOOK UP: Hot air balloons taking off around St. Louis all weekend

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The annual Great Forest Park Balloon Race has been canceled this year, but you'll still have a chance to see hot air balloon fly across the St. Louis area this weekend. 

Lift Up St. Louis began at 6 a.m. Thursday and will run through Sunday evening. Hot air balloons will fill the skies in honor of essential workers, educators, healthcare heroes and those standing up for change.

You can follow along on social media thanks to @GFPBalloonRace and people are encouraged to post their own photos and videos of the hot air balloons with "#LiftUpSTL"

The organizers aren't sharing the locations of where the balloon are taking off from, but they will be at multiple spots around St. Louis.

So when are the best times to see the balloon? 

"You can expect to hear from us/ see hot air balloons (weather permitting of course) each morning between 6 and 8 A.M. & again in the afternoon between 4 and 6 P.M," organizers stated. "These times statistically have the most ideal wind conditions for our pilots to take to the skies."

This year's Great Forest Park Balloon Race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but plans to be back at Central Fields in Forest Park in September 2021.
