ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Jack Flaherty won't hit free agency until after the 2023 season, but the more he looks like a Cy Young Award winner, the more the St. Louis Cardinals may want to wrap up a long term deal with him before letting him get to the open market.
He was asked about his contract situation but says he's only focused on preparing for Spring Training.
"I'm not too worried about it right now," Flaherty says. "When the time comes for that, then we'll deal with it."
As far as how much he enjoys the Cardinals organization, he talked about how lucky he is to have current players like Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina mentoring him and helping him progress as a player.
He also mentioned former pros such as Bob Gibson and Chris Carpenter around who are "so willing and so open" to help.
You can hear more from Flaherty at Cardinals Winter Warm-Up, who talked about his special relationship with Gibson, in the video above.
