ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In his first statement since the trade to acquire one of baseball's top pitching prospects in Matthew Liberatore, St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak reminded fans that trade speculation and rumors are almost always just that and nothing more.

"A lot of things are being speculated, I would say there is very little truth to many of these right now," Mozeliak says. "What I would say too is we're going to continue to look and see if there are ways to improve the club if something makes sense.

"As I've told you many, many times you always have a chance to try and get better ... so it's not as if we're putting an 'Out to lunch,' on our door. We're always looking at things. But I think a lot of the things that are being rumored or speculated, there's probably 95% or 99% mostly untruths."

On Thursday, the Cardinals traded a package that included outfielders Jose Martinez and Randy Arozarena to Tampa Bay, in exchange for the 20-year-old lefty, who is now the top pitching prospect in the Cardinals organization.
