ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has caught heat for comments made last week with Marc Cox on our sister station FM Talk 97.1.
"Me as a grandparent, if my grandkids go to school I'm well aware of the fact they could bring that home," Parson continued. "That was the whole point I was trying to make. We need to be prepared for when that day comes ... We're not defenseless against COVID-19 anymore."
Parson says any insinuation he's purposefully sending kids into harm's way and "doesn't give a damn" about them is hurtful.
"As a grandparent, as a father, anyone who would say those things about me not knowing who I am, and frankly about any father or grandparent, and saying you don't give a damn about your kids... is a sick individual."
Reaction to the governor's earlier comments continued to come in Tuesday, with Missouri National Education Association (NEA) President Phil Murray saying in part "when the Governor says that children are, 'gonna get over it', he forgets that some children won’t. He forgets that some children will be left with life-long health problems and some children will lose their lives. He forgets the parents, grandparents, educators, and other children who will become sick and will suffer unnecessarily."
