ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — The new year will bring some new challenges for St. Louis area motorists.

That includes the rebuild of I-270 in north St. Louis County.

Of the 87 projects worth $478 million MoDOT is planning for 2020, this one will cost $250 million. It will include new interchanges, overpasses and outer roads between Lindbergh and just past 367.

Assistant District Engineer Tom Evers says it will eliminate the infamous 'braided ramps' along Dunn Road by making the outer roads one way.

He also says the contractor will keep three lanes of 270 open in each direction during peak drive-times.

"There probably will be narrowed lanes at times, so you may not have nice-wide shoulders."

The work is expected to start in the spring. Completion is scheduled for November of 2023.
