COUNTRY CLUB HILLS. MO (KMOX)-A Country Club Hills Police officer shot at a man early Saturday morning, after that man allegedly shot a dog and then pointed a weapon at the officer.

The officer says that shortly after he heard shots at Carl and West Florissant at about 4:30 a.m., he saw a man with a gun. He ordered him to drop the weapon. Instead, he says the man raised it at him, so he fired in self-defense.

The suspect dropped the gun and ran off. It's not known if he was hit. Officers are now looking for him.

Police say the suspect had been attacked by the dog on nearby private property. The dog is being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The Country Club Hills officer is 64-years-old with 40 years of law enforcement experience.
