SHILOH, Ill (KMOX) - A military base near the greater St. Louis area was put on lockdown for a short time Wednesday afternoon due to a person "believed to be armed and possibly dangerous."

The lockdown was announced on the Scott Air Force Base Facebook page around 3 p.m. asking everyone on the campus to "stay put" due to "a situation in the dormitory." The base said around 2:30 p.m. a call came from the Velda Police Department about an Air Force veteran with prior convictions.

The suspect was taken into custody and an investigation is ongoing.

"We are proud of our Defenders for their professional response to ensure the safety of our people and the installation," the Facebook post stated.

Few details were released with the original warning on Facebook, but the post did say "this is NOT an active shooter situation."
