MEHLVILLE, Mo (KMOX) - If you live in the Mehlville or Oakville area and your water tastes funny you can blame the recent heavy rains.
According to Missouri American Water, rain washes the salt, leaves, and anything else that's on the ground into the Meramec River, so they add carbon to counter it.
That's why it smells and tastes like a chemical or chlorine.
The company says additional treatment measures are being used to minimize the smell and taste, and tests will make sure the water is safe to drink. The company stresses there are no health risks.
The water should return to normal by next Monday.
