Just after 8 a.m. Saturday, Wichita Fire Department crews responded to the report of an apartment fire in the 2200 block of south Rock Road, at the Cherry Hills Apartments.

When those crews arrived, residents were already evacuating the building affected. Smoke was found in the building's interior and the situation was declared under control at 8:13 a.m.

We're told the fire was extinguished by the occupants. It's unclear how the fire started and a damage estimate is not available at this time.
