At their meeting Monday night, the Wichita Board of Education voted 5 to 2 for students to return to classrooms.

Middle and high school students will follow a blended plan of on-site and remote learning. The blended model divides students into two groups, Group A and Group B.

Group A would be in person Monday and Tuesday and remote the rest of the week, while group B would start the week remote and the go in person Thursday and Friday.

All students would learn remotely on Wednesday to allow the district to manage any outbreaks.

Elementary onsite students will return to class on January 13, PreK onsite students return on January 14, and middle and high school onsite students return to the blended plan on January 25, which is the start of the second semester.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, the district reported 231 positive cases among staff and 602 staff under active quarantine. During the Nov. 30 meeting, the district had 334 positive cases among staff and 1,137 staff under quarantine.
