During a company earnings call Thursday, Costco announced it will reinstate the free food samples for customers starting in mid-June -- with some changes.
“We’re going to start doing some things in mid-June on a slow rollout basis in sampling,” Costco chief financial officer Richard Galanti said during the call. “I can’t tell you anymore, but needless to say it’s not going to be where you go and just pick up an open sample with your fingers.”
Costco ended the free giveaways in March due to concerns of transmission of the coronavirus.
"I think you'll see a little bit more excitement on the roadshow side," Galanti said calling the samples and events "things that we can do to get people excited about coming in."
All customers are required to wear a mask in order to shop in the super-store - a move that's caused outrage among some customers.
"There are a few people who don't like it but most people do," Galenti said Thursday about the mask requirement.
