On what would have been his 42nd birthday, the widow of the great NBA legend Kobe Bryant shared a heartfelt post on social media.

On her Instagram page, which has been set to private, Vanessa Bryant wrote about missing her daughter, Gigi, and Bryant and how she wished she could make a birthday cake with Gigi for him.

"I think about your tenderness and patience all the time. Thank you growing up with me and teaching me how to be strong," she writes. "God I miss you both so much."

Bryant also writes about how she's mad she "didn't go first."

"I always wanted to go first so that I selfishly didn't have to feel this heartache," she writes.

Tributes poured in Sunday from all over social media and the sports world including Nike releasing a short video narrated by Kendrick Lamar.

Fellow Lakers players also shared their emotions on social media Sunday including LeBron James. On Monday the Los Angeles Lakers will wear jerseys with both of Kobe's numbers (8 and 24) on them.

Earlier this summer, Vanessa shared a photo of Bryant wearing an "I can't breathe" shirt in support of "Black Lives Matter" and the protests going on across the country over racial injustice and the death of George Floyd.

Autopsy reports were released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's office earlier this summer regarding the victims in the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others.

The causes of the deaths of Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and the seven others were blunt trauma. The other victims, in addition to Bryant, his daughter, and Zobayan, were Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife, Keri, and their daughter Alyssa, Sarah Chester and her daughter Payton and Christina Mauser.

Bryant and the eight others died Jan. 26 when their helicopter crashed in heavy fog in Calabasas. They were on their way to a tournament.
