(KNX 1070) -- She's known as the woman who introduced the world to the wonder of chimpanzees.

On her 85th birthday, primatologist Goodall, who has been spoofed on "The Simpsons," was honored by the LA City Council and Mayor Eric Garcetti in downtown LA.

It'll be known as "Jane Goodall Day" at City Hall from now on.

Councilman Paul Koretz, who introduced Goodall, said he was absolutely "giddy" to introduce his colleagues to one of his life-long heroes.

During the city council meeting, Goodall made a joke, saying that a chimp greeting should be showcased in the room for the first time and also showed Garcetti how a female chimp would greet the highest-ranking male in the group.

"I'd like to do a little demonstration of how a female chimp greets a very high ranking male. And I suspect the highest ranking male is here," she said as the crowd laughed.
