Facebook has removed a post from President Donald Trump in which he claimed that COVID-19 is less lethal than the seasonal flu.
The post reads: “Flu season is coming up! Many people every year, sometimes over 100,000, and despite the Vaccine, die from the Flu. Are we going to close down our Country? No, we have learned to live with it, just like we are learning to live with Covid, in most populations far less lethal!!!”
The President posted the same message on Twitter. Although that post remains live, Twitter added a warning message saying the post violated rules of "spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19."
“We remove incorrect information about the severity of Covid-19, and have now removed this post,” Andy Stone, Facebook spokesperson said.
In August, Facebook and Twitter removed a post by Trump for containing false claims about Covid-19, where he alleged that children are "almost immune" to the virus.
As of Tuesday morning, the coronavirus has so far sickened more than 7.45 million people in the U.S., and at least 210,195 have died, according to the CDC.
According to the CDC, an estimated 22,000 people died from the 2019-2020 seasonal flu.
