More than 70,000 COVID-19 test results in the U.S. came back positive on Thursday — the highest daily case total the country has seen since July, data released Friday shows.
The U.S. reported 71,671 new COVID-19 cases and 856 new deaths on Thursday, data compiled by Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center shows.
Thursday’s case total marked the highest the country has recorded since July 24, when it reported 73,107 new cases.
The daily record currently stands at 77,362 new cases — all of which were reported on July 16.
As of Friday morning, the U.S. had reported a total of 8,424,583 COVID-19 cases and 223,226 coronavirus-related deaths.
