Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a curfew stay-at-home order for those counties in the purple tier Thursday afternoon.

The curfew will affect the counties in the purple or most restrictive tier. LA County is in the purple tier and as of recently, so is Orange County. The curfew is reportedly going to be from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. and will take effect Saturday for one month.

Newsom said in a tweet "Due to the rise in #COVID19 cases, CA is issuing a limited Stay at Home Order.
Non-essential work and gatherings must stop from 10pm-5am in counties in the purple tier.
This will take effect at 10pm on Saturday and remain for 1 month."

Dr. Mark Ghaly called out LA County in the Thursday press conference saying the county has seen a 147 % increase in cases since the beginning of the month.

Meanwhile, new COVID restrictions for Los Angeles County will take effect Friday because of the spike in cases and hospitalizations. There will be curfews in place for restaurants, breweries, wineries and other non-essential retail businesses from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. Another new rule is gatherings in public places will be limited to 15 people from a maximum of three households. Outdoor dining will be reduced to 50 percent capacity. Non-essential retail is reduced to 25 percent capacity.

This comes after the state and Gov. Gavin Newsom "pulling an "emergency brake" and trying to stop the spread of coronavirus - placing at least 41 counties back into more restrictive tiers including Orange County. Other counties that slipped back include Ventura, Santa Barbara and other counties in SoCal.

Initial reports came out from different reporters on social media on the news.

Ashley Zavala from KRON4 News and Fox40 tweeted that sources told her the curfew will go into effect Saturday.

"BREAKING: Multiple sources confirm California state leaders will impose a "Limited" Stay at Home Order for counties in California's purple/widespread, most restrictive tier. This will put a curfew in place in 40+ counties from 10pm-5am, sources say. I'm told this does NOT go into effect today. Sources say the state is expecting counties to enforce this beginning 10pm SATURDAY 11/21," according to Zavala's Twitter.

According to Scott Rodd from CapRadio News in Sacramento on Twitter: "SCOOP: I have it on solid sourcing that Gov. @GavinNewsom this afternoon will be announcing a *modified, curfew-style stay-at-home-order.* Details are still being nailed down, but looking like the order will be in effect late night/early AM, and will not be open-ended. i.e., an anticipated end date will be set when it's announced.
I'm told it will likely apply to purple tier counties, but again details are being nailed down. Expect announcement in the coming hours.Gov's office declined to comment."
