DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - If you suddenly get a census worker knocking on your door ... don’t be surprised. The U.S. Census Bureau is resuming its field operations for the 2020 Census, starting in counties with the lowest response rate.

"We have a response rate map where you can see all the responses across the state," says Michael C. Cook, Senior Chief of the Public Information Office at the U.S.  Census Bureau. "Those areas that are low, we have identified that they're low because those are households that have yet to be invited to respond to the 2020 census."

Cook says it's important to respond to the once-a-decade count as quickly as you can. You can respond online, by phone or by mail.

If you're looking for work, the bureau can help out there as well. Cook says they are once again hiring.

As field operations resume, Cook says safety is still paramount. He says all workers are given COVID-19 training before being sent into the field, and are fully equipped with PPE.

"It is a contact-less operation," Cook says.
