A detention officer in Denton has returned to work nearly two years after being injured on the job.

Officer Jason Inman was awarded the Purple Heart for risking his life to stop an inmate from escaping from a hospital.

The Denton County Sheriff's Office said Inman was assigned to guard Christopher Hermann while he was being treated.

Inman sustained life-threatening injuries to his head and face while trying to restrain Hermann.

Hermann was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
