Former Fort Worth Mayor Hugh Parmer Dies At Age 80

Former Fort Worth Mayor Hugh Parmer has died at the age of 80.

Growing up in Fort Worth, he graduated from Poly High School in 1957, got his college degree from Yale and his Master's from UT Arlington.

When he was elected to the Texas House at the age of 23, he became the youngest person ever elected to that chamber at the tiem.

He later served on the Fort Worth City Council until he was elected Mayor in 1977.

Serving one term, he went on to represent Fort Worth in the Texas Senate in the 80s and early 90s.

Leaving the Senate, he spent much of the rest of his life serving humanitarian causes.

A service honoring his life will be scheduled but no date has been set.
