FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Det. Marty Jones lost her battle against breast cancer today.

"We've truly lost a great one, and we lost her way too young.," says Sgt. Manny Ramirez, president of the Fort Worth Police Officers Association. "All of her closest friends, all of her closest colleagues would only describe her as genuine."

Det. Jones always kept a positive attitude during her battle against the disease.

"She always had a smile on her face regardless of what she was dealing with," says Sgt. Ramirez. "I mean, even in the middle of her battle, she’d come back to work, still in treatment, and just have the biggest smile on her face."

And Jones kept working right up until the very end.

"She considered retirement for medical reasons," Sgt. Ramirez says, "but she didn't."

Jones leaves behind a husband, two daughters and a son.

"Things like this really bring to mind why we all need to support causes to embolden cancer research and make sure that we can find a cure for these things," says Sgt. Ramirez, "because this was a wonderful public servant and a wonderful woman who we lost way to soon."
