FRISCO (1080 KRLD)- A University of North Texas student from Frisco is among six national scholarship winners in a competition sponsored by the distracted driving awareness group Yellow Light Project.

The scholarship competition, now in its ninth year, is designed to help teenagers and young adults reach their peers with what can be a lifesaving message.  In 2018, more than 2,800 people were killed and about 400,000 were injured in incidents involving distracted drivers.  Matthew Merrill, 19, was honored for his radio campaign.

Merrill is a graduate of Frisco Heritage High School, and is a Marketing major at UNT.  As he told KRLD's Chris Sommer, his distracted driving PSA used humor to convey a very serious message.

Here is Matthew's winning radio PSA.
