AUSTIN (1080 KRLD) - A strong showing by combat veteran MJ Hegar put her well in the lead for the Democratic nomination for Senate.

Dallas State Senator Royce West and labor organizer Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez are in a close fight for the runoff against Hegar.

Despite first having to win a May runoff, at her watch party in Austin Hegar focused her attention on Senator Cornyn. “My last message is for you John Cornyn. Your time is done because you've sold us out,” said Hegar. “We've given you plenty of time and it's over. You're fired. Pack it up buttercup, cause I'm coming for your seat. Thank you so much.”

West and Ramirez both tweeted Tuesday night that the race for second place was too close to call.

We do not expect that we will have a clear enough picture of results this evening to call it one way or the other. We will issue a statement in the morning as final results become more clear. Thank you all for your support. —RW

While this race is still too close to call, I wanted to take a moment to thank our volunteers for their hard work and every voter who showed up for a better future for Texas.I also wanted to thank my fellow candidates for their hard work to represent our state. 1/2
