The crime numbers are in in Dallas and they don't look good.

The public safety committee heard from police concerning a murder rate that is on track to match last years high rate and a 30% increase in violent crime. The city has reported 128 murders this year compared to 127 last year.

Councilwoman Cara Mendelsohn says their crime plan isn't working.

"All I can do is look at the data and say their is a leadership performance issue, this plan is not producing and this department is not producing acceptable results," Mendelsohn said.

Police point out that murders are up in all of the country's major cities.

In a new budget plan, police get about the same money as last year, but social programs also get more money as well.
