Senator Ted Cruz wants Fort Worth to be considered as the headquarters for the U.S. Space Command.

The Space Command was established last summer and set up at a temporary headquarters in Colorado.

The US Air Force expects to select a new headquarters location next year, and spend several more years building new facilities to house about 1,400 military and civilian personnel.

Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio have all advanced to the evaluation phase of the selection process.

Senator Cruz has sent a letter to the Secretary of the Air Force asking for one of those cities to be selected.

Cruz says they all have a reasonable cost of living, a strong technology sector, and are close to an established military base.
