DALLAS (KRLD) - Authorities say social distancing is essential for everyone's health right now, but a local doctor says it literally can mean life or death for the most vulnerable members of the population.
Dr. Britt Berrett is a clinical professor and program director of Health Care Management in the Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT-Dallas. He previously served as CEO of Medical City and Dallas' Presbyterian Health Care System.
Dr. Berrett said the concept of social distancing is even more important in protecting those with existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, that may cause them to be more susceptible to COVID-19. He said that also includes the elderly.
Experts also caution that while social distancing is especially important for these individuals, loved ones are also urged to maintain contact by phone or through technology to avoid total isolation.
