DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Some North Texas hospitals treating COVID-19 patients are finally getting doses of a new anti-viral drug that could help people who are the sickest.

1,200 vials of the anti-viral drug Remdesivir will be coming to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and JPS Hospital in Fort Worth.

Dr. John Carlo is on the Texas Medical Association's COVID-19 Task Force and says the drug was developed during EBOLA but testing showed it didn't work.

He says it has shown to lessen stays in the hospital, by making the affects less severe.

The vials are expected to arrive today
