The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office is mourning the death of one of its own from COVID-19.

Cpl. Charles Holt was assigned to the county jail, mainly handling bookings.

Last week, Cpl. Holt was diagnosed with COVID-19; and Tuesday, he died from the virus.

"Charles was 36 years old, appeared to be in good health, and this virus attacked him," says Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn. "He was an exceptionally positive man who had a beautiful family, and he leaves behind a wonderful wife and three little boys."

Cpl. Holt had been with the sheriff's office since 2014.

"Every time I saw him, he had a big smile on his face," says Sheriff Waybourn. "He was always friendly. He was always of service."

And Holt was dedicated to his job.

"He knew the risk every day that he showed up, working in the environment he worked in," says Waybourn. "And he did it proudly, and he did it boldly."

Funeral arrangements are still pending.
