With COVID-19 still gripping the state, some teachers are having to decide between maintaining an income and maintaining their health.
For the last five years, Rebecca Asher taught theater at Willkie Middle School in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.
Before the district voted to begin the school year online for the first two and a half weeks and giving students the option afterwards, Asher was terrified about returning to the classroom amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As she addressed the school board last Thursday night, Asher dropped a bombshell saying she is resigning her position to take care of her family.
In an exclusive interview with KRLD, Asher says that resignation was not a spur-of-the-moment remark, she had discussed it with her husband for several days prior.
"Making that decision I knew has to be the right one for my family" said Asher.
Asher acknowledges that leaving her job will be a financial hit for her family's finances in the short term.
