DALLAS (KRLD) - You can have too much of a good thing, especially when that good thing is a great TV show where you sit down to watch multiple episodes.
A new study from Methodist Hospital in Houston finds binge-watching can actually be a danger to your brain. Dr. Randall Wright says watching more than three episodes of a show can trigger a section of the brain that's similar to the reaction that you get from gambling, as opposed to sitting and watching a 3-hour movie. But, binging makes us want to keep watching to get the gratification going. Sitting through a movie may last as long as a binge session, but the movie has a beginning, middle, and end to it. That's the difference.
He says it's like an addiction.
Dr. Wright says the double trouble comes from the fact that when we binge, we tend to snack on foods that aren't good for us.
