Lake Worth players to boycott football game due to concerns over racist slur

The Lake Worth High School varsity football contest is still on tonight even though several players are boycotting the road game against Wichita Falls Hirschi.

At least four players have refused to practice this week because of an incident during last week's game against Fort Worth Poly. One of the Bullfrogs reportedly directed racist language toward Poly players and the Lake Worth players are demanding action be taken against their team-mate.

Monday, several Lake Worth players protested in the school parking lot, saying the racist language was reported to the coach but their concerns were discounted.

The school district released a statement yesterday following an investigation. The statement claims "corrective actions have been taken" but gives no specifics, citing privacy rules.

Apparently several of the players are not satisfied with the "corrective actions" because they say they are carrying out their boycott and will not travel with the team to Wichita Falls today.
