The City of Arlington needs hundreds of volunteers for a city-wide community service event this weekend.
The event is called Unite Arlington and as the name suggests, it brings people together to do various community service projects throughout the city.
"We're looking to kind of bring people together to do some good in the city," says Art Hooker with Engage Arlington, which is organizing the event. "We're just excited to be able to come together during a time that's somewhat polarizing."
Some of the projects include school beautification, park cleanups and home repairs for senior citizens.
"From doing things with schools to working with a widow that can't make repairs to her home," says Hooker. "We're putting in a wheelchair ramp at someone's home."
The event is this Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.
Volunteers are invited to meet at Levitt Pavilion at 8:00 a.m. both days.
"Because we gotten such a large outpouring of projects from different organizations, our goal is to make this something that's ongoing," says Hooker.
In all, there are about 85 projects for which people can sign up for, and the city is looking for about 600 volunteers.
