DALLAS (1080 KRLD) -  The State Fair may be cancelled this year but, starting today, you can still get your fair food fix. The Big Tex Fair Food Drive Thru kicks off this morning.

The new event is giving folks the chance to visit the fairgrounds, swing by the Midway for a game or two and enjoy deep fried creations from a handful of food vendors.

“The fair is about bringing the community together, the fair is about unity, the fair is about all of us coming out here from all walks of life and having a great time together. It’s just going to look different this year,” says Karissa Condoianis, Senior Vice President of Public Relations for the State Fair of Texas.

Condoianis says, like the name suggests, this is a drive thru event. So it’s important to stay in your car unless you need to use the bathroom OR you’re snapping a photo with Big Tex.

Vendors are taking safety precautions like wearing gloves and masks and food will be served prepackaged, to limit contact. Fair officials ask anyone driving and interacting with food vendors to wear a face mask.

Tickets for the Big Tex Fair Food Drive-Thru can only be bought online, they will not be sold at the gate.

Ticket package prices include food. Each car can bring up to eight guests.
