Tarrant County judge asking for authority to penalize people for violating mask order

Amid a huge resurgence in COVID-19, the Tarrant County judge is asking for the authority to penalize people for violating his mask order.

Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley says he still sees people out and about not wearing masks, and would like to start fining people for not wearing them.

Witley tells KRLD that wearing masks is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to keep the economy open.

Whitley acknowledges, however, that Governor Abbott's executive order currently does not allow local governments to levy fines for violating mask orders; so as of right now, the only thing he can do is to strongly urge people to wear masks and to social distance.
