Speaking with RADIO.COM's Dr. Chris Donaghue, WHO representative for mental health advocacy and founding partner of 320 Changes Direction Talinda Bennington had some wise words to share as we lead into our special 2-hour I'm Listening broadcast on Wednesday, September 23.
Talinda's campaign, 320 Changes Direction focuses on supporting families who are struggling with mental health and addiction, topics the widow of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington knows all too well.
"From the smallest things; giving one another a hug, or a kind word, or a phone call, to greater acts of support; reaching deep and asking a loved one if they're ok and how they're doing, knowing that it's OK to not be OK," she explains.
"That's just the most basic idea," Talinda continues. "But it's so impactful."
"Often people feel as though they're only allowed to share their successes," says Dr. Chris. "That's real, that's honest, but sometimes it's actually not honest. When you share with others your struggles, it often makes us feel comfortable sharing ours back with them."
RADIO.COM's I’m Listening broadcast returns on Wednesday, September 23. During the special 2-hour event, we’ll once again join forces with artists, athletes, and individuals nationwide to showcase that talk has the power to save lives.
In the meantime we've shared some choice moments from past I'm Listening shows here and at ImListening.org, with previous guests Mike Shinoda, Logic, Disturbed, Halsey, Metallica, Korn, Pearl Jam and many others, all opening up honestly about mental health.
We also invite you to share your story about your own journey with mental health.
