Russell Dickerson is going to be a dad. The Country singer and his wife, Kailey, shared the news on Wednesday, April 15 on Instagram that they are expecting their first child.
“THE DAD SHOES ARE OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL! WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!” he exclaimed in the caption.
Dickerson and Kailey met in college and married in 2013. Kailey has stood by her husband's side all through his career and has directed several of his music videos, including the clips for his debut single, "Yours," and his most recent single, "Love You Like I Used To.”
The couple, conceived after nine months of trying. “It just got to the point where we’re like, ‘well, if it happens, it happens. It’ll happen when it does.’ It’s all God’s timing on that part,” Dickerson says. “So yeah, I was completely surprised.”
Kailey shared the exciting news with her husband on New Year’s Day, telling him that she had one more present to give him after their extended family had left their home following the holiday. “She put a stocking up on the mantel and I opened it,” he recalled, sharing that Kailey had had gifted him with “little navy blue slippers with big white letters on them” that read, “Best Dad.”
While the couple may be wearing blue in their announcement photos, they are waiting to find out the sex of their baby until they settle on a name. Though, they are bouncing a few family monikers around.
“My family has the tradition of the initials R.E.D.; mine’s Russell Edward Dickerson and my dad is Richard Edward Dickerson. I want to keep that tradition going, if it’s a boy, of our ‘Edward Dickerson’ name,” says the “Yours” singer.
The soon to be dad thinks he’ll definitely be handling all the “early riser” duties between the two, while Kailey will be, “the one up cooking breakfast and then running around with the kids all day in the yard.” Adding, “Mama Kailes will definitely help them through that.”
