It seems all those shower crying scenes we’ve seen on TV aren’t that far off base after all. A recent worldwide survey found that 74% of people cry in the shower. Researchers found that the most common things people do to self-comfort are, apart from listening to music, crying and making themselves feel warmer. There’s also the fact that the bathroom offers a degree of privacy – between that and the warmth and comfort of a shower, maybe it shouldn’t be surprising that shower crying is so popular. However crying alone might not be for the best. A previous report found that that those who ‘received social support’ while they cried were the most likely to say their mood was improved after they cried.
