There's a good chance you'll find a great Black Friday deal on a new mobile phone. That means your current phone will soon be relieved of duties and ready for sale or as a gift for someone special. But before you make that step, there are three things you need to do first. Of course your phone should be backing up on a regular basis. Fortunately newer phones can directly transfer data from your old device to your new one. Simply place the two phones together and make sure Bluetooth is active. For Apple products, the Quick Start screen appears on your current device. Android-to-Android methods vary by device, but one universal method is to back up your stuff to Google Drive and then download it onto your new Android phone. Head into the System menu on your old phone and peruse the Backup section to select what to back up. If you switching from an Android to an iPhone, use the Move to iOS app in Google Play. If you’re switching from an iPhone to an Android phone, check with your Android device maker. Samsung, for instance, has an app called Smart Switch. Once your backup has been installed on your new device, it is time to sign out of your accounts on your old phone. Usually in your settings, you will sign out of your Apple or Android account. Finally, the big erase. The most important step, especially if you are selling your phone, is to wipe clean your device. Again, this is usually in the settings. Depending on your model and condition, you may get a few hundred bucks for your old phone. eBay, Swappa, Gazelle and Sell Cell are good places to start. Check between the sites for the best offer. There are also local brick-and-mortar stores that will but them. You may be able to sell your phone to your carrier as well for a store or bill credit.
